FILM SYNOPSIS:
A young Iranian woman (Dorsa Sinaki), who is dutifully pursuing her father’s plan for her to become a doctor -- attending medical school in China - - is thrown into existential turmoil when a famous casting director offers her the lead role in Abbas Kiarostami’s next film.
Caught between her own desires and ambitions and those of her father, she finds an unexpected ally in her mother, (Ana Bayat), who, she discovers, has suffered from thwarted dreams of her own.
SPECIAL GUEST: Ana Bayat is the award-winning actress and playwright of the critically-acclaimed multilingual show Mimi’s Suitcase (“a hidden gem” and “pick of Fringe” at 70th Edinburgh Festival Fringe). She is fluent in Spanish, French, English and Persian. Ana holds a B.A. Honors in Language and Linguistics, an M.A. in Film and a PG Dip. in Acting and Stagecraft from Birmingham School of Speech and Dramatic Arts in England. Following in her father's footsteps, Ana trained in the Stanislavski system by training with direct students of the master himself. Alongside her artistic career in theatre, film and voice-over, Ana is also a lecturer in Modern Languages at the Department of World Languages and Cultures at St. Mary’s College of California as well as a published translator and an international language specialist and consultant.
