Join Us March 28-30, 2019 in San Francisco for "Forty Years and More: International Conference on Iranian Diaspora Studies" for Keynotes, Panel Discussions, and two major exhibitions of Iranian Diaspora Art. 

The conference will mark the anniversary of the 1979 Iranian Revolution by understanding the ways that Iranians as exiles, immigrants, and as second and third generation hyphenated citizens of their respective nations, have met with both challenges and opportunities of diaspora experience. Conference presentations in the arts, humanities, and social sciences will present new scholarship and research about the Iranian diaspora from a variety of perspectives and national contexts. 

Conference speakers include Dr. Neda MaghboulehDr. Amy Malek, Dr. Shiva Balaghi, and many others.

Art Exhibits

Forty Years and More: International Conference on Iranian Diaspora Studies in March 2019 will coincide with two art exhibits in San Francisco featuring artists of the Iranian diaspora. Please mark your calendars to explore these unique art exhibitions.

The exhibits are free and open to the public.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS:

Our selected hotel is the Handlery Hotel at Union Square in San Francisco.

We have arranged a block of rooms at the Handlery for those who would like a more classic San Francisco experience. The Handlery is a lovely hotel a few steps from Union Square, with proximity to landmarks, shopping and the cable car!

The contracted hotel rate is $199/night in the historic building. When booking, please mention the Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies. Please book by February 26, 2019.

A CLOSER OPTION:

For those who would like to stay closer to the San Francisco State campus, we recommend the Hampton Inn Daly City. The Hampton Inn has free onsite parking and is 10 minutes from SF State.

We do not have a reserved room block at the Hampton Inn. We advise that you seek the best rate via an online booking site.

CONSIDERATIONS - GETTING TO CAMPUS FROM UNION SQUARE:

San Francisco State University is on the southwest end of town – very much apart from the heart of the City.

The options to get to San Francisco State from the Handlery Hotel include:

  • Driving
  • Taking the M Line Muni Train
  • BART to Daly City (and then bus or shuttle)
  • Taxi or car service like Lyft or Uber
